Court A Lady Who Travels

Court a lady who travels... for a purpose. What purpose you may ask? She is on a mission. What mission? Her mission is to seek and fulfill God’s will for her life and to share His greatness to others. Her travels may be sparse or may be plenty but you can be pretty sure it’s substantive.

Anticipation will not be highlight of her travel experience... it’s the destination itself... the stories from the journey up to the arrival ...and until departure that she will tell you afterwards, with animation and a spark in her eyes.

Yes, she did look forward to the trip with giddy excitement. But she most likely packed up her clothes a night before... or even hours before her trip. Nothing’s sure. She might be called to go to a different mission field.

Court a lady who travels for a purpose. She will be excited about going to a new place. And it is for unique reasons. She will be enthused about the new things she will learn about God’s love for her. And the new friends she will meet and the godly counselors who will make an impact in her life.

Court a lady who travels with a mission. She will not have a travel itinerary, a tour package, tour guides, thus saving you a lot of money already. She usually has friends around the area who are generous enough to tour her around. She is willing and will be ready to sleep on the cold floor, sofa, on the airport benches, under the stars. Anywhere including even a five star hotel or a posh country club... but not with you. Before marriage.

Court a lady who travels with a mission. She is a writer, a master storyteller. She paints pictures with her printed words or through personal contact with her. She punctuates her tales with gusto that will exhort you and at the same amuse you. Or she may weave stories with her handy dandy, worn out camphone or digital camera.

Her social media account will be replete with tags from people of a different culture, color, or creed. She has friends from all 7 continents although she may only have been  to one or two... as of the moment. A lot of her Internet traffic is spent on searching for cheap airline tickets.

Court a lady who travels with a mission. She is frugal. She has a credit card but she only uses it for those promo airline fares she watches out for. She brings it along during her travels but very rarely uses it. She doesn’t shop for clothes or shoes or bags.  Not locally, and not abroad. (Unless it’s TNF. :D) She usually packs for lunch or light snacks so that you don’t need to eat out for lunch. Or hunts the cheapest food stalls selling healthy meals.

Her day pack is an interesting collection of things. She will have disinfectant alcohol, a travel notebook, a powerbank for her gadgets, bottled water, pens, headphones, raisins, tracts, books and her personal powerbank: the Bible. Her room is even more fascinating since she has a lot of memorabilia from the places she’s been to: her name tags and  the printed programs during the camp meeting she went to in Mindanao,  little trinkets from the kids she taught at a mission school in Palawan, letters from friends she met as a youth counselor, dried flowers she received from an orphanage she volunteered in Cambodia.

Court a lady who travels with a mission.  She is strong, carrying around a big backpack. Not always the The North Face brand (though she really wants one) but one enough for her stuff. She may have started off as a heavy packer but because of necessity and frequency and personally experiencing the difficulty of dragging a luggage trolley in unpaved, dusty, uphill roads or on coarse sand, she is now a lightpack convert.

Court a lady who travels with a mission. She doesn’t really care so much about her looks. Unkempt, disheveled. She will not care so much about her clothes much less look like a fashion plate. Most often, her clothes will be “repeat performances” as you can notice in her facebook albums. But if she did prepare, it will likely be prized finds from her friendly, neighborhood thrift shop and/or it is more likely because her next destination has a colder weather.

Court a lady who travels for a purpose. She is patient and kind. She’s seen a lot even at a young age. Traveling has taught her valuable and immense lessons about human behavior and how to deal with them the way Jesus did. With tears in her eyes, she has held the hands of a dying child, wiped the tears from the eyes of an orphaned young lady, prayed with a mother for his wayward son, hugged a minor, rape victim, and prayed for a problematic cabdriver.

Court a lady who travels for a purpose. This lady can find joy in the simplest of things: from the plain flower, to the picturesque view. She sees the world as beautiful but at the same time knows she is not meant for this world but for the life to come... in heaven. She is friendly, vivacious and has a zest for life that makes her childlike and endearing. Yet at the same time, she is a woman, full of wisdom from rich experiences and quiet observations.

Court a lady who travels for a purpose. She is not intimidated nor awed by the rich and famous. But she will not be too high or dainty to be in the company of the poor. For after all, “there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free... for you are one in Christ.”

Travel with her and you will see the world in a different light. You will realize that living is not about pleasing yourself but about serving others. You will realize that traveling should not be about crossing out a country in your bucket list but about going where God wants you to be, for you to learn, grow and be closer to Him. You will realize that you no longer feel empty about a long travel but just filled with appreciation about how good God is because He has entrusted you with resources to have a travel experience with Him. You will realize that it doesn’t matter whether the destination is 3,000 kms or just a kilometer away, whether it’s through a 24-hour boat ride or just an 8Php jeepney ride, because serving Him and the people He wants you to reach can be anywhere.

Why court? Because you will never win her using other methods. She’s a lady, a godly woman, the apple in God’s eyes. And will not settle for anything less than the best. Search for her in the places mentioned above. And maybe, God willing, you’ll be traveling together, unto eternity.
